art print japan 2019

October 18, 2018

This is my fifth calendar with one of my favourite and longest-standing clients, Art Print Japan. This year we developed a desk calendar with beautiful gold foil details, and it turned out beautifully. And once each month is complete, the page can be pulled out and the back has been designed to be used as a postcard. We also developed some small gold-foiled planners / organizers (and I can’t help but love the fact that there is a map of the Tokyo subway system tucked into its inside pocket).

Last year I did my own sale for the wall calendars, while I was still living in Toronto and shipping was a little easier. This year I’ve decided to forego it, but I’ve got my fingers crossed that those interested can get their hands on one through online shops in Japan.

love art print

October 18, 2018

Love is a theme that I’ve been exploring a lot over the past few years, in my work and in my own personal life. I read an amazing book, All About Love by Bell Hooks, and it absolutely changed my world through its perspective on what love truly means. I’ve been pretty focused on the concepts in it ever since (and even got my first and only tattoo, a small heart on my wrist, to commemorate how important its messages feel to me).

My goal as an artist is to spread beauty — to scatter it around like seeds, and hope that it grows. This print is a celebration of love, and perhaps a gentle, floral-inspired reminder to weave more love into our daily lives, like these soft, elegant flowers gently weave and dance themselves around it.Anyway, for me, it’s clear that we can never have too many reminders in our lives to be more loving, to ourselves and others.

So, when Nine x Nine came to me wondering if I’d like to work on a print for them, we quickly settled on a print themed around love. You can check out the print, available in lots of different sizes and even have it framed, on their website, along with a lot of other great art from artists I admire.

the best field trip yet

October 18, 2018

Field Trip is an annual show that I organize with a bunch of super talented artists, and this past May was our third event. And might I just say, I think it was the best yet. We had an amazing turnout and it was the perfect manifestation of all of the months we spent working closely together to bring it to life. I absolutely adore my Field Trip Family. I thought I’d show you a few images from my own table at the show, and I invite you to read our full blog post on the Field Trip website to see how it came to life!
